Biggest Deer Hunting Pet Peeves

Deer & Deer Hunting kickstarted the whitetail industry in 1973 with the incorporation of the Stump Sitters Whitetail Study Group. It was founded by Jack Brauer and Al Hofacker, two ultra-serious whitetail hunters from the Upper Midwest. The magazine built its reputation on editorial quality and integrity. When the first copies of Deer & Deer Hunting Magazine came off the press in 1977, it marked America’s first whitetail-specific publication. The magazine’s founders built the brand’s niche by providing whitetail enthusiasts with cutting-edge insights on deer research, behavior, biology, hunting tactics and hunting product development.

The editorial content of the magazine focuses on white-tailed deer biology and behavior, management principles and practices, habitat requirements, natural history of deer, hunting techniques and hunting ethics. We also publish a wide range of “how-to” articles designed to help hunters locate and get close to deer at all times of the year. Most of our readership consists of three-season hunters (archery, centerfire/shotgun and muzzleloader) and about one-third camera hunt.

Forest Wilderness

A true key I’ve found to effective habitat and free range deer management (if there even is such a thing as effective deer management, without a high fence) is understanding the animals and their habitat. The better I understand each, the more effective I find my management efforts to be. Let’s look at how all this starts tying together.

Some hunters will say you can’t pattern rutting bucks. I’m saying that’s all wrong. Here is how I follow rut patterns.

If you are fond of watching the animals in the wild, or go hunting in a wide forest, then a pair of the best binoculars for hunting is a good way to make your activity more exciting!
